Ryde Harriers :

January weather no deterrent for Ryde Harriers

Thanks to Tom for this report from Ryde Harriers, in his own words. Ed

Drizzly and mild weather made for perfect running conditions although the thought of it being January still led to many runners being rather overdressed for the occasion.

The course, which heads out towards Binstead before dog-legging back towards Haylands and then heading home via Well Street, has been run for many years but still presents challenges for the unwary with some tough little climbs. A greasy surface from the drizzle meant runners had to be aware when crossing roads and heading down Well Street as they reached top speed. Nobody wants to end up in the allotments.

John Randles wins nominated race
Winner of the nominated race with a time estimate only five seconds out was John Randles, a regular high scorer with his consistent running. Second and only seven seconds out was Graham Maitland who found this scant reward for a twisted ankle in the last 200m.

Joint third and finishing together were Bridget Lewis and Karen Collet. Fastest on the night was Tom Blackwell who crossed the line with a time of 32.40 and fastest woman was Mandy Womack at 36.34 only just ahead of Julie King who finished at 32.46.

Next club night
Next club night event is a 10km nominated race on Tuesday 21st with the Isle of Wight Cross-Country Championship from Smallbrook Stadium on Sunday 25th January and Ryde 10 mile race the following Sunday 2nd February.
