‘Make the most of bank holiday weekend, but do it in as safe a way as possible’ says health chief

We’ve all heard it so many times, but with the rise of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, the gold standard for a good, safe time this bank holiday weekend is still; hands, face, space, fresh air.

  • Ventilation is vital. Meet outside if you can. We know Covid-19 spreads far more easily indoors. If you are indoors with people you don’t normally live with, let fresh air in before during and after meeting other people. Regularly open your windows, to let fresh air in and disperse the particles.
  • Think about who you’re meeting and where you’re meeting them. Try and limit close contact with people you don’t usually live with. 1 in 3 people don’t have symptoms and could be passing on the virus without realising.
  • Face masks help protect other people, including those at risk of serious illness. It is a legal requirement for face coverings to be worn in shops, on public transport including taxis and in most indoor settings including theatres and cinemas.
  • Keep washing your hands regularly with soap or hand sanitiser.
  • Take an LFT test before you go out. If the result is positive, isolate and book a PCR test.

These basic behaviours help stop the spread of Covid-19. They help protect all of us and they help keep Island businesses and organisations open.
