Police advice during floods

As mentioned in our earlier weather and travel report, heavy rain is expected with a risk of flooding to many areas today.

Advice from police
The police have asked for us to share the following advice with readers.

If anyone has concerns about any older or vulnerable people in their community during times of adverse weather, they should call: 0845 603 5630 or out of hours 0845 600 45

Alternatively,

  • Call 101 for non-emergencies
  • Call 999 in an emergency only

Chief Inspector Clive Marsh, police commander at the Response Working Group yesterday, said:

“Our aim is to keep people safe throughout this period. Together with other emergency responders and partner agencies we will be working hard throughout the next 24 hours to respond and minimise the risk to our residents.

“Please keep journeys to an absolute minimum. It is fortunate that it is the weekend and so roads will be less busy but we would still strongly advise motorists to not go out unless you have to.”
