Sarah Redrup triumphs in Wootton Bridge by-election as Liberal Democrat candidate (updated)

The Wootton Bridge by-election delivered a Liberal Democrat for its constituents on Thursday (24th Aug 2023).

Sarah Rae Redrup was elected with 475 votes, with just under half the votes cast.

Councillor Redrup is the first Liberal Democrat to hold a seat in Wootton Bridge since 1998.

In her acceptance speech she thanked the people of Wootton for her votes, despite being a ‘newbie’.

35.12 per cent turnout
A potential 2,830 residents could have voted, however the turnout was 35.12 per cent with 994 votes.

The results were:

  • Ed Hopper (Conservative) 291 votes
  • Linda Pitcher (Vectis) 178 votes
  • Sarah Redrup (LibDem) 475 votes
  • Michael Smith (Green) 48 votes

Councillor Redrup – not to be confused with her father Councillor Ray Redrup (Conservative) – will join the group of Liberal Democrats making them the third largest group at County Hall.
