Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club surpass expectations

Alex shares this latest report from Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club. Ed

Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club have had something of a renaissance in recent years.

After a five year championship absence, Shanklin won the Men’s Junior Pairs and Sculls in 2014, before retaining the Men’s Junior sculls in 2015 and taking home the Men’s Novice Sculls championship in the process.

It was believed the last two years would be tough acts to follow. Shanklin have however surpassed our own expectation in 2016, perhaps most notably taking home a championship for the third successive year.

Champion Daisy
Thanks to the early season exploits of Daisy Faithfull, Shanklin take a joint share of the Ladies Novice Sculls Championship with Westover.

Daisy won in her debut Novice race at Shanklin regatta, before winning again at Milford the following week, earning the first promotion to Junior status of the season of any sculler in the Hants and Dorset.

Other victories
The championship is one of many markers being laid down by Shanklin scullers, with Harry Miselbach and Alex Robertson both taking victories at Junior and Senior sculls respectively this season that was seen them both finish as runners up in their respective championships.

A review of our fantastic 2016 season will come following the final regatta of the season at Itchen Junior Regatta in early October. But for now, Shanklin finish their Hants and Dorset season knowing that for the third year in a row, there is something shiny and silver to pick up at the dinner and dance in November!
