The Figlet magazine continues to support emerging voices in Isle of Wight literature

The Isle of Wight’s home-grown literary magazine, The Figlet, marked the release of its fourth issue with a vibrant launch event on Friday evening.

Held at Medina Bookshop in Cowes, the gathering brought together a lively mix of writers, artists and readers to celebrate Island talent.

Celebrating creativity and connection
Now in its second year, The Figlet continues to grow in both reach and ambition.

The latest summer edition features work from 54 contributors and, for the first time, includes full-colour artwork.

Editor Jean G-Owen said,

“What makes The Figlet special is how it celebrates both emerging and established voices, all with a deep connection to the Island.”

Readings, music and a new award
The evening featured a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with readings, speeches and live music performed by Brian Thomas.

It also saw the presentation of the first-ever Biosphere Writing Competition awards, held as part of the Isle of Wight Biosphere Festival and organised by Naked Figleaf Press.

Lydia Fulleylove won first prize for her piece Outside Inside Outside, with further awards going to Tim Johnson, Steffie Haynes, and four other highly commended writers.

Thanks were given on the night to Karl Whitmore(pictured above) and Paul Armfield for generously hosting the event.
