Ryde Pier:

Watch a blockbuster film on the pier and help boost the Joe Ellis Fund

Ryde Pier Head will become a pop-up cinema for a night next month as Wightlink offers Islanders the chance to watch a recent Hollywood blockbuster free of charge.

Fittingly, the movie chosen to be shown on Saturday 5th July at the pier will be the science fiction epic Transformers: Dark of the Moon. It will begin at 9.15pm as the sun sets to give the event extra atmosphere.

The screening, in partnership with Isle of Wight Radio and the Isle of Wight County Press, will kick off a series of outdoor cinematic events sponsored by Wightlink this summer, further details of which will be announced shortly.

Fundraising for Joe Ellis
While free of charge, those with tickets for the Ryde Pier Head event will be asked to make a donation to the Joe Ellis fund to raise £100,000 to fund a new, potentially life-saving drug treatment for the teenager who has an aggressive and inoperable form of cancer. A number of tickets have also be offered to looked-after children on the Island.

Wightlink Media Relations Manager Chris Cowley says:

“The evening will give people the chance to catch up with the latest Transformer movie before the release of the next film Transformers: Age of Extinction later this month. With the movie starting as the sun goes down it should be a really special evening out.

“We will have space for around 200 people and we hope to create a really unique and atmospheric venue to watch the film. We are pleased to be playing our part in the Island staging another live event to entertain residents.”
