Police TapePolice are appealing for the driver of a red Ford Fiesta to come forward following the collision on the Isle of Wight in which 10-year-old Evey Staley died.

The crash happened at around 8.30pm on Friday August 24 and involved a Ford Puma driven by a 30-year-old man from Sandown and a Subaru Jesty in which Evey and her parents were travelling. Evey died later in hospital while her parents remain serious but stable.

The driver of the Puma also sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at St Mary’s Hospital. He has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and bailed until further notice.

Fiesta driver may have seen Puma
It is thought the driver of the red Fiesta – which was not involved in the crash – may have seen the Ford Puma shortly before the collision and may be able to help collision investigators with their enquiries.

Sergeant Darren Ord of Hampshire Constabulary’s Road Death investigation Team, said: “We do not believe the driver of the red Ford Fiesta had any involvement in the crash but may have seen the Puma shortly before the collision occurred.

“It may be that the Fiesta turned off the road or into a driveway while the Puma continued, but we’d like to speak to the driver about anything they may remember between 8pm and 8.30pm on Friday.

“Any information, no matter how minute, could be really helpful in ascertaining what happened here.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw either of the vehicles prior to the incident, is asked to contact Sgt Darren Ord on 101 quoting Operation Oakwood, or the Crimestoppers charity, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
