Gold PhonePolice are appealing for a man to come forward with information about a possible scam on the Isle of Wight.

This man is reported to have phoned the ‘Gold Rush’ jewellery store in Newport on Friday, April 6, 2012 saying that someone claiming to be from the shop had made a cold call visit to the home of his elderly parents on the Island.

Cold caller entered house
It’s alleged the cold caller entered the house where he asked to see a jewellery box belonging to the couple with a view to buying items. Nothing was reported stolen.

Detective Sergeant John Walton of Isle of Wight CID said: “This information is prompting further police enquiries because we’re concerned these events may amount to a crime, which could be part of a series that has not been reported to us yet.

“I’m appealing for the man who phoned Gold Rush over Easter about his concerns to contact police as soon as possible.

“We would also remind people that if somebody cold calls at your door, asking to buy jewellery on behalf of ‘Gold Rush’ or any other jewellers, do not let them in and contact the police. ‘Gold Rush’ has never used cold callers to buy jewellery.”
