Barely Born at Ventnor Launderette

The very lovely Keith and Rhonda Bishop at the Ventnor Launderette have taken inspiration from seeing the Barely Born car and parade during the Ventnor Carnival, and asked what they could do to help this valuable charity – which aims to raise funds for the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St Mary’s.

Walking past the launderette on Spring Hill, you’ll notice a washing line in the window of the office with lots of very cute little blue and pink baby clothes.

If you pop your head into the launderette you can help support this very worthy charity by purchasing a Barely Born Magic Wand. The wands which sport stars on the end and light up, are great for festival, carnivals and the kids will love them. Every penny goes back to the charity and helps raise awareness.

Well done to Keith and Rhonda- your generosity is very much appreciated.

Background on the Neonatal Unit
The Barely Born Appeal has been launched to raise additional funds to help provide St Mary’s Hospital with a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for the island’s sick babies and their parents.

Barely Born at Ventnor LaunderetteThe existing unit was designed during the 1970’s when equipment available to support neonates was limited. Almost 40 years on, up to ten large pieces of equipment are used to support one sick baby. This means that our unit is simply running out of space! Also our unit is located downstairs from the maternity ward. This is not ideal as mothers are separated from their babies.

The new St Mary’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will provide babies, parents and medical staff with a spacious, modern unit adjacent to the Maternity Department.
