Isle of Wight council has confirmed it is finalising plans to investigate and fix the recent rockfall on Belgrave Road.
Council officers now have permission from the landowner, which allows them to access the land next to the road.
Securing the site
The first step will be to inspect and make safe the newly exposed rock face.
Teams will also secure the nearby wall to prevent further movement or risk.
Clearing the rubble
Once the area is safe, crews will begin removing the rubble that fell onto the road.
The council says it will keep the public updated on progress.
Background
At around 11pm on Friday night (7th March 2025), residents in the Belgrave Road area in Ventnor heard a loud crash, which they reported ‘sounded like thunder’.
The overhang rock on the corner of Belgrave Road had finally let go, collapsing into a heap on the road and beyond. Large boulders crashed through the railings and made their way down onto Esplanade Road.
Belgrave Road and Esplanade Road have been closed since.
