Naturezones in Blackwater has joined the growing list of venues hosting a screening and Q&A of the People’s Emergency Briefing (PEB). The event takes place on Saturday 5th September at 2pm.
This 50-minute film was created following the National Emergency Briefing by ten of the UK’s leading experts to an invited audience of over 1,200 politicians and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media.
The resulting film is a fascinating insight into the implications of climate and nature breakdown for health, food systems, national security and the economy.
Community-only screening
Although there is pressure building on the Government to approve this film being shown on TV as a public service broadcast, the model of in-person screenings is designed to achieve a number of goals. PEB organisers say,
“Watching with others helps people process the information and find agency through connection. It is also our key mechanism for ensuring MPs attend screenings and are briefed alongside their constituents.”
Isle of Wight East’s MP, Joe Robertson, has previously attended a screening in Bembridge.
A must-see
Anyone who hasn’t yet watched the film is being encouraged to make time for this one.
The message behind the project is straightforward: where government action falls short, communities are stepping in to fill the gap themselves.
Limited seats, free entry
Seats for the screening are limited, so early booking is recommended.
Organisers say that if the session fills up, they’ll look at arranging a second screening to meet demand.
