Free online registry gives UK sea boats a permanent ID number

A boat owner has set up a free, independent online registry for privately owned sea boats around the UK.

BoatID gives each boat on its books a permanent BoatID number.

Owners keep the details of their boat and its engine in one place, with photos and serial numbers. The trailer too.

A person checks every entry
A person checks every registration before BoatID confirms it. Each verified boat then gets its own public record page and a QR code.

Owners can print the code and fix it to the boat, where anyone can scan it.

Owner details stay hidden
A scan brings up the boat’s identifying details and shows whether anyone has reported it stolen.

The record page never shows the owner’s name or address.

Anyone who needs to get in touch with the owner can do that through BoatID instead.

Founder lost his own RIB to thieves
Simon Freedman started BoatID after thieves took his RIB from dry storage near Lymington.

And he only got it back because his trailer carried his vehicle registration.
