Discover the tale behind Tennyson’s ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’ at Carisbrooke Castle Museum

This coming Thursday (16th November) sees another fascinating and informative talk take place at Carisbrooke castle Museum.

Beginning at 11am (gates open 10.30am to 10.50am) Kevin Shaw will be presenting, “The Charge of the Light Brigade, Tennyson’s Poem and the Crimean War”.

The stirring tale of Tennyson’s famous poem is set against the blundering heroics, unbelievably incompetent leadership and terrible suffering of the soldiers.

With many of the images of the first-ever war photographer among the illustrations, this talk reveals how the vivid first-hand reports of the world’s first war reporter not only shocked the public at home and drew Florence Nightingale to the Crimea, but also inspired Tennyson’s tremendously popular poem – without which the infamous ‘Charge’ would probably have passed largely unnoticed in British history.
