The poll cards for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Commissioners election will be arriving through your letterbox from the 31 March. You will only be eligible to vote if you are registered as an elector.

How do I check I am on the electoral register?
If you need to check that you are on the Register of Electors then please call the Isle of Wight Council on (01983) 823380. You will need to quote your full name and postal address. If you are not registered , please register online

Elections for Police and Crime Commissioners will be on Thursday the 5th of May 2016, when voters in 41 police force areas in England & Wales, excluding London, will elect a Police and Crime Commissioner for their area.

Newly elected Commissioners will take up office on 12 May 2016 and the terms of office of the existing Commissioners will end on 11 May 2016. All existing Commissioners can stand for re-election if they wish to do so.

Where can I vote?
The poll cards will notify voters which polling station they are allocated, so please check your poll card when it arrives.

This year, there will be two changes to polling stations in the Isle of Wight:

  • The polling station for St. Lawrence will be St Lawrence Village Hall, Undercliff Drive, St Lawrence, PO38 1UY (was previously St Rhadagunds Holiday Centre.)
  • The polling station for the Osborne East and Osborne West areas of East Cowes will now be the newly refurbished Parkside Pavilion, Vectis Road, East Cowes, PO32 6HN. However, East Cowes Methodist Church will still be used as a polling station for part of the East Cowes area, so make sure you check your polling card.

Who can vote?
To vote in a Police and Crime Commissioner election a person must be registered to vote and also fulfil the following criteria:

  • 18 years of age or over on polling day
  • a British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of the European Union
  • resident in the UK
  • not be subject to any legal incapacity to vote
