The Bay CE School (secondary site), Nine Acres Primary School, Hunnyhill Ormiston Academy, St George’s School and Medina College have been prioritised for the government’s flagship School Rebuilding Programme.
Five schools prioritised
The School Rebuilding Programme (SRP) carries out major rebuilding and refurbishment projects at school and sixth-form college buildings across England, with buildings prioritised according to their condition.
The SRP programme will include significant investment for the Island, providing hundreds of children access to modern classrooms and facilities.
Contractor and timeline confirmed
The Department for Education have appointed Willmott Dixon as the building contractor for The Bay CE School (secondary site) and Nine Acres Primary School, with building works likely to start on both sites by the summer term of 2027.
Public event today
For The Bay CE School (secondary site), a public information event to view the plans will be held at the school today (21st July), between 3pm and 7pm. All staff, parents and residents are welcome to attend. The full project team will also be on site if you have any questions.
Feasibility work under way
St George’s School and Hunnyhill Ormiston Academy have commenced feasibility, with Medina College starting later this year.
Council reaction
Councillor Ros Freeman, chair of the Isle of Wight Council’s children’s services, education and skills committee, said,
“This is fantastic news for our community.
“We have long needed this level of investment in our Island’s educational infrastructure.
“These rebuilds will give our students the first-class facilities they deserve and ensure our teachers have the modern spaces required to inspire the next generation.”
