This in from the council, in their own words. Ed

A flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the Isle of Wight coast. Flooding is possible for the coast around the Isle of Wight at high tide, which is due at the following times:

Yarmouth 3.02am and 3.05pm (both Wednesday 5 February)
Cowes 3.29am and 3.44pm
Ryde 3.03am and 3.24pm

Wave heights are very high around the Isle of Wight coast which will lead to spray overtopping especially at Yarmouth and Ryde.

Cowes, East Cowes, and Newport
A separate flood warning has also been issued for Cowes, East Cowes, and Newport.

Flooding is expected for coastal areas at Cowes and East Cowes, and tidal areas of Newport two hours before high tide, which is due at 4.09am on Wednesday 5 February.

Please contact Island Roads for information on the collection of sandbags.

Update from Environment Agency
Heavy rainfall is forecast from today, Tuesday 4th February through to Saturday 8th February. 65 mm to 100 mm of rain is expected in the area over this time period.

The outfall at Monktonmead is being cleared tonight at 20:00 hours in advance of the first band of rain.

Monktonmead Pumping Station is currently operating correctly. We also have temporary pumps on standby which can be used in an emergency.

High tide tomorrow morning is at 04:00 hours with 15 mm of rain expected before this time. Tide levels are high and as there may be a prolonged high water period as a result of large forecast waves, a member of our staff will be on site before and after the high water period tonight.
