In step with charity: Former soldier’s UK walk for SSAFA makes strides on the Isle of Wight

Last updated:

Former British Army soldier, Russell Chittenden, is currently on the Isle of Wight as part of his mammoth UK Anticlockwise walk for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

Russ was in Ventnor yesterday (Monday), where he was treated to lunch by the team at Better Days Cafe. Today he’s heading towards Ryde.

Russ says,

“As a former Soldier of the British Army I feel a great need to achieve this challenge and help those less fortunate than others.

“I hope we continue to smash the fundraising and raise awareness that just because war ends, for some its never really over.”

He adds,

“Since 1885, thanks to the public’s support, SSAFA continues to provide welfare and wellbeing assistance tailored to our Armed Forces community.

“They know and understand the unique demands of service life, whether in the UK or overseas, and in times of need, they help to enable the Forces family to thrive.”
