Islanders mobilise support for Sudan’s food and medical crisis with 26 mile walk across the Island

Last updated:

Cerys Briscoe and her friends will take part in a charity walk – 26 miles across the Isle of Wight – on 21st December to raise funds for emergency relief in Sudan.

They aim to raise £1,000, building on Cerys’s earlier fundraising walk for Palestine in February, when she raised £1,700.

Raising awareness of the crisis
Cerys highlights the scale of the suffering on her JustGiving page.

She writes,

“It is the worst humanitarian crisis in history. 30 million people in Sudan need humanitarian help.”

She explains that more people are displaced in Sudan than anywhere else in the world and that nearly 11 million people have fled their homes as armed clashes push families to seek safety.

Cerys adds that,

“25.6 million people – that’s half of the entire country – are facing a food crisis and 750,000 people are facing catastrophic hunger, and urgently need help now.”

What donations support
The group’s walk aims to raise funds for essential supplies and medical support.

Cerys lists what different donation amounts can provide, including a girl’s hygiene kit for £15 and 25 hot meals for £25. She states that £30 can feed an orphan for a month or provide treatment for ten people at a mobile clinic.

She describes that £50 can supply a family food parcel for a month, £80 can cover two months of daily bread, and £130 can provide weather-appropriate clothing for a displaced family.

Cerys says,

“Sudan needs an exceptional humanitarian endeavour to end its horrific civil war, any donations go towards making even the smallest of change to those suffering.”

Readers can find her JustGiving page online and support the walk as the group prepares for their December challenge.
