Visitors to the Hear to Meet sessionsThis week Newport residents with hearing loss raised a cuppa to toast the launch of Action on Hearing Loss’s new ‘Hear to Meet’ coffee morning.

The club, which helps reduce isolation for people who have hearing loss, held the first of its monthly coffee mornings at the Salvation Army Hall Cafe in Newport which gave people the chance to relax, socialise and share their experiences of hearing loss over a tea or coffee.

Service Manager of Action on Hearing Loss on the Isle of Wight, Lesley Holmes, says: “Hearing loss can be isolating – especially if you are struggling to follow conversations with friends, family or neighbours.

“Our Hear to Meet club’s new coffee morning, which we hope will be the first of several across the island, will give islanders who are deaf or hard of hearing the chance to meet and make friends with others who understand how hearing loss affects everyday lives.”

The charity plans to open more ‘Hear to Meet’ clubs in future.
