Letter: October half-term consultation claims ‘simply ridiculous, and very misleading’

News OnTheWight always welcomes a Letter to the Editor to share with our readers – unsurprisingly they don’t always reflect the views of this publication. If you have something you’d like to share, get in touch and of course, your considered comments are welcome below.

This from Cllr Paul Brading, the former Conservative cabinet member for children’s services and education. Ed

I am pleased to see that Cllr Debbie Andre has now backtracked on her previous rash decision to scrap the two-week October half term, without any consultation, it is just a shame there will only be a one-week half term this October.

To explain the process, as a matter of course every year Headteachers are always consulted well in advance on the Local Authority’s proposed school calendar, asking for their initial comments.

Ridiculous and misleading
So for Cllr Andre to claim that her decision to revert to a one-week autumn half term was based on a small consultation carried out before she came to post, is simply ridiculous, and very misleading.

I hope that the Alliance Group now acknowledge that going forward, consultation with the public is always better than personal preferences.
