Letter: Rwanda Treaty debate stirs concerns over Conservative agenda

News OnTheWight always welcomes a Letter to the Editor to share with our readers – unsurprisingly they don’t always reflect the views of this publication. If you have something you’d like to share, get in touch and of course, your considered comments are welcome below.

This from Hans Bromwich, Cowes. Ed

All this Rwanda nonsense is nothing more than a ridiculously expensive smokescreen designed to draw attention away from the real issues facing our country. Conservatives have never genuinely been interested in ‘levelling up’, indeed they actively pursue quite the opposite.

Their policy has been to welcome hundreds of thousands of migrants into the UK, along with their extended families, perfectly legally, providing they are prepared to undercut British workers and work for salaries 20 per cent below the going rate.

Similarly, our Universities have become totally dependent on overseas fee paying students, many from China, and we wonder why our intellectual property and national security is compromised.

Declining population
To put things into context we need to recognise some harsh truths. Our indigenous UK population is declining for the first time in history, with people dying in larger numbers than those being born.

The problem is further exacerbated by many young families deciding to delay having children, many for economic reasons, with some deciding not to have any children at all.

Throwing red meat to its voters
The number of migrants coming across in boats pales into insignificance by comparison, but that doesn’t stop the Conservatives throwing a bit of red meat to its voter base along with a healthy dose of hate in a bid to deflect and apportion blame for years and years of failure elsewhere.

It’s a classic Tory soufflé cooked up and served with relish ahead of every General Election.

Seely on GB News
So what about Rwanda? Our Conservative MP, Bob Seely, always ready to virtue signal to his declining voter base, sank to a new media low last week, appearing on GB News, dutifully supporting Rishi’s new treaty with Rwanda.

He seemed completely nonplussed when it was explained to him that the French authorities had reported people traffickers were using winter, along with the Rwanda scaremongering, to hold back on migrant crossings as a means of hiking their prices ready for the new 2024 season.

Rwanda Treaty is a reciprocal deal
What Bob Seely of course failed to mention is that the Rwanda Treaty is a reciprocal deal, where we send people to Rwanda and Rwanda sends us those they want to get rid of in return.

In short the whole pantomime is a complete nonsense, at least it would be if it were not for the ridiculous cost to the British taxpayers. £250 million so far, with an extra £50 million being talked about in a desperate bid to save Rishi’s skin.

Have you been fooled?
Will the British public be fooled into voting for more Conservative organisational incompetence and more and more Conservative fiscal incompetence?

Time will tell.
