Islanders and Mainlanders who took part in the Wightlink survey into Friday night sailing times from Portsmouth to Fishbourne have voted decisively to change the 21:00 ferry from Portsmouth to 22:00.

Wightlink publicised the online poll through Island media and promoted it on social media through Facebook and Twitter. In addition, emails were sent to customers who had travelled on Friday night ferries over the last three months and leaflets were given out to passengers on the relevant evening sailings on 21 and 28 February.

Sean Millward, Head of Port Operations explained,

“We had been approached by several people during our Meet the Managers consultation events who wanted to travel on a later sailing on Fridays so we decided to find out for ourselves what our customers would prefer.

“We will make the change on 7 April when our next timetable comes into effect.”

Nearly 500 took part
In total nearly 500 customers took part, 79 per cent of respondents chose the later sailing and 21 per cent voted to keep the timetable as it is.

72 per cent of people were Islanders, 28 per cent were Mainlanders. 77 percent of respondents identified themselves as car drivers or passengers.
