Police appeal for information about Cowes Week assault

Police are continuing their investigations into an assault on Cowes Fireworks Night which left a 21-year-old man with a serious facial injury.

Medina Road, Cowes:The incident occurred in Medina Road on Saturday, August 10 at around 1.30am.

The victim was in the company of two women and another two men when a group of people set upon him as they waited for the floating bridge.

Broken jaw
He was hit to the ground and kicked causing him to receive a broken jaw. The man was helped onto the floating bridge by his friends and taken to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance from East Cowes.

Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Andy Cooper of Newport DCID said:

“This was a nasty attack that left the victim needing plating to a broken jaw.

“It happened on a memorable night of the year, as the Island was celebrating the penultimate day of Cowes Week with the annual Fireworks display.

“Do you remember seeing a fight break out at that time by the floating bridge?”
