Police investigate death of pensioner

This just in from the police, in their own words. Ed

Officers are trying to establish how a 78 year-old man from Gurnard on the Isle Of Wight sustained a serious head injury on Thursday, May 26.

The pensioner was outside of his home on Rew Street cutting his hedges. He was found just after 10am lying in the road with a head injury. Officers believe that he may have fallen and that this could be an accident rather than a crime. The 78 year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment, but sadly later died.

Officers have been told a couple were in the area and saw what happened. It is believed the pensioner spoke to them briefly. They are described as white, aged in their sixties, and driving a tan coloured hatchback car.
