RSPCA Isle of Wight invites supporters to Fire Walk Challenge

Last updated:

Would you walk barefoot over hot coals to help animals in need?

The RSPCA Isle of Wight is inviting residents to take part in a Fire Walk Challenge this autumn. The event takes place on Saturday 8th November 2025 at Havenstreet Station from 4pm to 7pm.

An evening of courage and compassion
Organisers describe the event as an opportunity for “courage, community and compassion.” Participants will walk across glowing embers to raise funds that will provide shelter, veterinary care, and a second chance for animals on the Island.

The charity says no experience is required, as training will be given on the day.

Is it a trick?
No – the fire is very real. The embers will be glowing red-hot, with temperatures often measured at around 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit.

Walkers will have bare feet, and they will not be treated in any way before stepping onto the embers.

Will it hurt?
The sensation has been described in different ways. Some compare it to walking on eggshells, while others say it feels more like hot sand.

Each walker has their own experience.

How to take part
Registration costs £25 per person. Each participant is asked to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship to support the branch’s work with hundreds of animals every year.

Spaces are limited, so those interested are encouraged to secure their place soon.

Supporting animal welfare
By stepping forward, participants will not only face a personal challenge but also help give vulnerable animals the chance of a happy ending. Sign up via the website.
