Upcoming Isle of Wight events: Art, community, astronomy and even a rambling rally

There is always lots happening on the Isle of Wight, so we’ve pulled together a handful of current and upcoming events that you may not have heard about.

Independent Arts: Art Sale Exhibition
Independent Arts are hosting their latest Art Sale Exhibition in Newport. Pop along and explore the wide variety of artwork by talented Island artists and practitioners, all available to buy, with every sale helping to raise vital funds for Independent Arts.

The exhibition features work by Trudie Wilson, Julian Winslow, Kirstie & Kit at Firestone Studio, Paul Armfield, Davina Smith, Lisa Anthony, Polly Zanardi and Evie in the Air.

The Art Sale Exhibition can be viewed until 7th November 2025. Opening Monday to Friday 10am-4.30pm and Saturday 10am-4pm. Closed Sundays.

Pop in, be inspired, and take home something truly special – all while supporting this vital charity.

Community meeting to discuss future of Ventnor Winter Gardens
Residents can join a public meeting about the future of Ventnor Winter Gardens next week.

The meeting takes place on Tuesday 14th October at 6pm in the Green Room at Salisbury Gardens.

Organisers, Steve Witheyman and Councillor Ed Blake will explain the next stage of the Community Right to Bid process and how local people can take part.

The owners have said they wish to sell the building, so anyone interested in bidding or learning more about the process is encouraged to attend.

Ramblers’ rally and record launch
Next week, Isle of Wight Ramblers are releasing their very own record, “I’m an Isle of Wight Rambler” by Steve Love.

The song is being launched at the IW Rambler’s final rally, where they hope to raise awareness of the issues surrounding the 2-mile inland detour of the King Charles III England Coast Path.

Read more about the current consultation for the Coast Path and the stalemate with Osborne and Barton.

You can meet Steve and hear the song on Wednesday 15th October from 2.30pm to 4pm at the square in East Cowes adjacent to Waitrose.  Light refreshments will be available (no cost).

Vectis Astronomical Society event
On Friday 24th October 2025 (7pm start), The Vectis Astronomical Society present their latest talk, “Revealing The Unseen Cosmos – How Amateurs are Contributing to Scientific Research” by Peter Goodhew, FRAS.

In recent years amateur astronomers have been increasingly engaging in research and discovery activities. Peter will describe the nature of such activities, how amateurs make new discoveries, and show some of the more beautiful discoveries made. He will further explain how such proactive research is now evolving into reactive research where amateur astronomers are responding to requests for support from professional astronomers.

The talk takes place at Newchurch Pavilion, as well as online via Zoom. To secure your tickets (£2.50 for non-members), head over to the Eventbrite website where you can find out more about the speaker.

Visit the Vectis Astronomical Society website for more info.
