Thanks to an initiative between Ventnor Town Council and the Island’s Footprint Trust charity, people on low income will be helped with their fuel costs.
The Town Council under the Warmer Ventnor scheme has set an initial fund aside.
Advice on staying warm
The Footprint Trust will visit people in their homes in the Ventnor area and give them tailored guidance on staying warm, grants available and details of free or economic insulation initiatives.
They will also be able to use the new Warmer Ventnor Fund to buy energy efficient washing machines, cookers, fridges, and even thick curtains – all which will help in reducing fuel bills.
Help reduce carbon emissions
Speaking for Ventnor Town Council, Town Councillor David George said, “It might seem strange to launch this scheme during some of the hottest weather this year”¦ but people need to act now to insulate their homes”¦ and get assistance before the winter starts to bite and the high bills come in.
“This scheme does not only help people stay warm but will also help reduce carbon emissions through wasted energy.”
Can make a real impact
Speaking for the Footprint Trust Ray Harrington-Vail said, “We are delighted that Ventnor town Council has led the way in showing how parish and town council can make a real impact in helping vulnerable people in their neighbourhoods. We are now looking for more parish and town councils to join us in helping to fight fuel poverty on the Isle of Wight.”
