Wightlink has embarked on a major campaign aimed at publicising the Isle of Wight’s summer festivals, bringing more tourists across the Solent and boosting the Island’s economy.

wightlive Jools Holland:#wightlive is both a fun-to-enter competition with more than £3,000 of prizes and a social media promotion using cutting-edge technology to spread the word far and wide about entertainment on the Island.

#wightlive is the largest initiative ever launched by the ferry company. In collaboration with Visit Isle of Wight, it will promote all cultural and sporting events by encouraging people to upload pictures of their activities to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram via www.wightlive.co.uk. It will also focus on six key festivals:

  • Isle of Wight Festival 12-15 June
  • Isle of Wight Festival of the Sea 16-23 June
  • V-Dub Island 14-18 August
  • The Garlic Festival 16-17 August
  • Bestival 4-7 September
  • Isle of Wight Cycling Festival 13-28 September

How to take part
Festival-goers will be invited to submit their photographs to #wightlive at www.wightlive.co.uk using a Polaroid-style frame which is part of the website – it features a cheering crowd in silhouette form and means anyone in the frame will ‘take centre stage’ in the picture.

All the photos will be entered into a contest with the winners chosen by an online public vote. The grand prize will include tickets to six major festivals in 2015.

Most comprehensive festival promotion campaign
Mark Persad, Wightlink’s Head of Marketing comments,

“This is the most comprehensive campaign we have ever run to promote the festival season.

“It is the first time we have really joined up social media with Island events in this way and we are overwhelmed by the excitement and support we are already receiving from the Island and Festival organisers. Wightlink is committed to supporting the cultural activities of the Island, we are a key part of Island Life and our #wightlive campaign proves that.”

#wightlive launches on Tuesday 27 May, see www.wightlive.co.uk for full details.
