Fundraising appeal launched to save iconic Victorian Beach Huts

Storm Katie made her visit to the south coast of the Isle of Wight particularly known on Sunday night.

Sadly, Ventnor’s Victorian beach huts, which have been lovingly looked after by the Blake family for generations, took a battering.

Rental fees raised by 500%
Fellow Ventnorian, Trudi Bridgeman has started a Go Fund Me appeal to help Sophie and Les re-build their beach business following the storm.

Trudi says,

“They have spent many, many hours and so much hard work to provide Ventnor with their iconic beach huts, many of which are the original Victorian Bathing Machines.

“The council seem to have put every obstacle in their way and this year in particular have raised the rental fees by a ridiculous 500%!

“Ventnor is a unique place with many big hearted people who enjoy spending many happy hours on the beach, please join with me to help support Soph and Les to continue to make the beach special.”
