A new cultural role is inviting Island poets to put themselves forward as a figurehead for the Isle of Wight’s creative community.
The Isle of Wight Poet Laureate will serve a two-year term from 2026 to 2028, acting as a cultural ambassador and representing the Island through original work, public performances and engagement with local communities.
A voice for the Island
Whoever takes on the role will bring the Island’s people, places and landscapes to life through poetry, working alongside schools, libraries, community spaces and public events to reach audiences of all ages.
The programme welcomes applications from writers at any stage of their career, whether just starting out or with an established body of work behind them.
A lasting legacy
Those behind the initiative say the role offers a genuine opportunity to shape the Island’s creative identity and leave a meaningful cultural mark.
The Laureate’s role is honorary, but commissions, workshops, and special projects will include paid opportunities.
Lemon Jelly Press CIC is coordinating the programme and overseeing the selection process.
Don’t miss the deadline
Applications close 26th April 2026. Find out more and apply via the official website.
