Death of ten year old boy not being treated as suspicious at this time

The tragic news of the death of a ten year old boy from the Isle of Wight has reached the national newspapers.

Police have confirmed they were called to an address in Binstead on Sunday afternoon following a 999 call reporting that a young boy had stopped breathing.

It’s reported that after being given CPR, he was taken under police escort to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport, where he sadly later died.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight constabulary said,

“A ten-year-old boy was taken from the address to St Mary’s Hospital, where the boy later died.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and any further questions are to be directed to the coroner.”

A spokesman for Isle of Wight NHS Trust told OnTheWight,

“Isle of Wight Ambulance Service received a 999 call during the afternoon of Sunday 7th December in which the caller indicated that a young boy was not breathing.

“The Ambulance Service despatched a 999 emergency ambulance which was on the scene at Binstead at 14.47, a rapid response vehicle which arrived at the scene at 14.49 and a Bronze Officer was on scene at 14.50hrs.

“An emergency transfer with Police escort was made from the scene to the Emergency Department at St. Mary’s arriving at 15:15hrs The Air Ambulance was activated at 14.51 but was stood down at 15.00.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of paramedics, doctors and nurses, the young boy could not be saved. He died at 16:10hrs on Sunday 7th December and the Coroner has been informed.

“We’d like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the young boy.”
