Alarm clock:

Charity calls for end to ’15 minute care’

On Monday morning, UK disability charity, Leonard Cheshire Disability, launched a campaign to ‘End 15 Minute Care’.

The charity approached councils across the country through FOIA requests to discover how much time is spent with disabled and elderly patients receiving care. The result revealed that “60% said they use 15-minute visits – and in some areas, more than three-quarters of care visits are just 15 minutes long”.

Care times for the Island
We asked the charity whether their findings included a response from the Isle of Wight council. A spokesperson for the charity advised they were unable to reveal which councils did or didn’t respond.

However, the Isle of Wight council told OnTheWight they have not received any FOIA requests from the charity.

Have your say
The campaign is launched ahead of the third reading of the Care Bill in the House of Lords later today (Wednesday).

The charity are calling on citizens across the country to write to Health Minister, Lord Howe, to call for an end to 15 minute care. Readers can use the online form to write to Lord Howe
