Niton Primary pupils jumping for joy

‘Exemplary behaviour’ noted at Niton Primary by Ofsted inspectors

Pupils, staff and governors at Niton Primary School are celebrating following their latest Ofsted inspection.

During the two-day visit in June, inspectors described behaviour as “exemplary” and said everyone has high expectations.

They added,

“Pupils rise to these and are proud to be recognised for their positive attitudes. Pupils do not need to worry about the behaviour of others. There is a calm and respectful atmosphere in class and at playtimes.”

The inspection team’s report said children get off to a strong start in the early years with activities carefully chosen to develop their knowledge. It noted that “leaders have designed a curriculum which begins here and builds throughout the school”.

Inspectors said the high value placed on reading was noticeable in every corner of the school, with pupils enthusiastic about the range of diverse books in the library and the top 100 books in their classrooms. The report continued,

“They are grateful to have such a wide range of texts to choose from. They eagerly talk about the books they are reading. Pupils achieve well due to the carefully thought-through curriculum.”

According to the report, pupils are well cared for in school and there is a focus on nurturing their potential and a strong emphasis on valuing everyone for who they are. It found pupils feel proud to celebrate differences while leaders, including governors, have a sharp focus on well-being which applies to everyone within the school community.

The inspection team added,

“There is a collaborative approach and the strategies, which began during COVID, are now embedded.”

Welcoming the findings of the inspection, executive headteacher, Duncan Mills said,

“I am truly proud of this report and thrilled to read so many positive comments. I would like to thank the pupils, staff, parents and members of our community who, over the years, have supported us in creating our amazing school.”

Pete Higgin, chair of governors, said,

“On behalf of the governing board of the Cornerstone Federation and as a parent at Niton, I could not be happier with the result.

“It was a team effort, displaying the strength of the school community, its values and the importance of the school in the
local area. The hard work of staff during the inspection and in the lead up to inspection is to be applauded.

“Parents and carers continued to show love and kindness and considerable engagement in supporting the school. Thank you. And, finally our pupils, who are the real stars of the show, our greatest ambassadors who continue to shine, and are the real proof of the school’s success.”
