Foundation for Liver Research seeks to occupy former Gurit building

A medical research charity conducting ‘groundbreaking research’ could take over a large-scale industrial building at an Isle of Wight business park.

The Foundation for Liver Research has applied for a removal of condition 12 on application P/01203/99 which would allow the former Gurit building, Unit 3 at St Cross Business Park, an independent use.

Supported groundbreaking research programmes
Its agent, Chestnut Planning, says the bid would ‘represent economic development’ and ‘achieve required expansion’.

The Foundation for Liver Research has ‘supported groundbreaking research programmes into liver disease’ for ‘over 50 years’, the charity’s website says.

Building no longer required for storage
Its application form says,

“Condition 12 requires that the storage use which forms part of the (previous) approval shall only be used for that purpose in conjunction with the adjoining industrial building to the east.

“It also requires that the building should not be used for B8 (storage and distribution) purpose at any time separately from the industrial building to the east.

“The building is no longer required to be used in conjunction with the adjacent building.

“Therefore, in order to allow an alternative user to occupy the building it is requested that this condition be removed.”
