Get free groceries: Ryde Town Council offers £4,000 worth of food vouchers

Ryde Town Council are delighted to announce that they have been successful in gaining £4,000 of grant funding from Connect4Communities to be given to members of the Ryde community in food vouchers as part of the ongoing fight against the cost-of-living crisis.

The vouchers can be used for groceries in Iceland or Coop and come in denominations of:

  • £25 for a single person
  • £50 for a couple
  • £75 for a family

Referrals
People can be referred for a voucher from a range of local organisations:

  • NHS Social Prescribers (via GP surgeries)
  • Living Well Outreach Workers (01983 240732) or at George Street Centre, Tuesdays 10am – 12pm
  • Citizens Advice in Ryde Library
  • Men Only IOW at The Depository

Pearce: Contact one of the referrers
Alison Pearce, Ryde Community Development Officer says:

“We want to help those who are just about managing and have tried to make the process as simple as possible. We ask you to contact one of the referrers so that you can get any other support (if needed) and they will organise a voucher for you.

“However, we can’t give vouchers to people who have had vouchers sent to them directly by Connect 4 Communities – there is a criteria on the client declaration that the funders have asked us to put in.”

People who haven’t had any vouchers sent to them directly from another source are eligible.

No eligible
These are the ones who aren’t eligible because they would have had them sent directly include:

  • IWC foster carer
  • Care Leaver over the age of 18
  • Registered/have a child in receipt of a Gateway card via IWC Short Breaks
  • Only in receipt of housing benefit
  • In receipt of Local Council Tax Support, but not on a passported benefit
  • Registered with the IWC No Barriers Team

After just one week of the scheme over £2,000 of food vouchers have already been claimed and we intend applying to continue the scheme with the next round of funding which is available in April.
