Island Roads is working seven-days-a-week and extended hours through the night to ensure the project – which includes the installation of 750 piles to strengthen the historically unstable highway – is completed on time.

Bouldnor Road pilingsIsland Roads is also working with public utility companies under the same road closure to ensure necessary work undertaken by them is also completed before the scheme deadline on 4th April 2014.

Already, re-surfacing has been completed from Bridge Road roundabout to The Mount and new road markings will be laid on the new surfacing this week. More than 600 of the required 750 piles have been installed and over the next couple of weeks, the pedestrian crossing just east of St James’ Street will be also be upgraded and new tactile paving installed.

In addition, 400 metres of footway has been installed and widened where necessary between The Viewpoint and The Mount and 200 metres of new drainage installed along this section of road.

As part of the scheme, The Viewpoint car park will be landscaped with additional planting to encourage wildlife while the village green is also being re-profiled to make it easier to maintain. The revetment is being improved for the enjoyment of users and Island Roads has also supplied labour and materials to help Yarmouth Primary create raised flower beds as part of the company’s community involvement scheme.

David Gibby Island Roads’ geotechnical director said:

“We realise that while necessary, the closing of Bouldnor Road does cause inconvenience for residents so we are taking all the steps we can to make sure work is completed as quickly as possible.

“I am pleased to say the work is progressing well and we thank residents once again for their continued patience and support in enabling these works to be completed safely and successfully.”
