Isle of Wight Council elections confirmed for 7th May – key dates to know

Elections will be held on Thursday 7th May 2026 for all 39 Electoral Divisions of the Isle of Wight Council and potential voters are being reminded that the last day to apply for a postal vote is 5:00pm, Tuesday 21st April 2026.

Polling cards will be delivered from Monday 23rd March 2026 onwards and will confirm voting arrangements (in person, by post or by proxy).

Voting in person
If voting in person, the polling card will include the address of the allocated polling station.  Some polling stations have changed so voters should check the details on their poll card.

The last day to register to vote in these elections is Monday 20th April 2026. Further details here:

Proxy vote
The last day to apply for a Proxy Vote is 5:00pm, Tuesday 28th April 2026. Further details can be found here:

Photo ID needed
For those intending to vote in person, a reminder that photo ID is required.  Voters can use their passport or and driving license, but other forms of ID are acceptable.  The full list can be found Electoral Commission website.

Anyone who do not possess one of the accepted forms of photographic ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate on GOV UK

  • The Isle of Wight Council elections on Thursday 7th May are planned elections which were postponed from May 2025 and the term for those elected will run until May 2029.
  • The count will take place on Friday 8th May and results will be expected that afternoon.
  • Notice of Election will be published on Monday 30th March and the close of nomination deadline is 4.00pm, Thursday 9th April.
