Isle of Wight Youth Trust appoints Nigel Hartley MBE to its Board of Trustees

Today the Isle of Wight Youth Trust, the Island charity dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young people, announced Nigel Hartley MBE, has joined the charity’s Board of Trustees.

At a time when more young Islanders are experiencing poor mental health and uncertainty about their future, this appointment brings crucial expertise in clinical, healthcare services and charity leadership.

Decades of experience
Nigel worked in end-of life care for over 40 years, latterly as Chief Executive of the Mountbatten Hospice Group until his retirement in 2025. He was a significant champion for expert and accessible end-of-life care, building a reputation for innovation while challenging the status quo.

He is now a Board member for several Island organisations and will be the High Sheriff for the Isle of Wight from May.

Words of welcome
Chair of Trustees, Kay Boycott added,

“Nigel brings a wealth of experience to the Isle of Wight Youth Trust and we are very pleased to welcome him to our Board.

“His insight and passion for quality services and high performing organisations arrives at an exciting time for the charity, as we look to launch a new five-year strategy developed with and for young people across the Isle of Wight.”

Commenting on his appointment, Nigel said,

“I’m honoured to join the Board at such a crucial time. I started my counselling career in youth services and look forward to contributing to an organisation that empowers young people and strengthens the mental health support they deserve.”
