Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra brings American soprano to Independence Day Spectacular

The Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra welcomes versatile American soprano Kelly Glyptis for its Independence Day Spectacular on 4th July 2026.

From West End to Wight
Kelly possesses a wealth of experience in opera and musical theatre both in the USA and the UK and most recently performed the role of Carlotta Giudicelli in Phantom of the Opera at His Majesty’s Theatre in the West End.

At the Medina Theatre, she will perform the enchanting ‘Knoxville 1915’ by Samuel Barber, composed in 1947 for soprano Eleanor Stebor and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

A programme of American classics
The concert opens with Aaron Copland’s stirring ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’, composed in 1942 for the brass and percussion of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

An engaging programme then follows, including Max Steiner’s ‘Suite from Gone with the Wind’, George Gershwin’s stylish ‘An American in Paris’ and John Williams’ exhilarating ‘Flying Theme’ from E.T.

Supporting young musicians
The evening begins at 7.15pm at the Medina Theatre and tickets can be booked via the website.

The orchestra is delighted to be supporting The Southampton and Isle of Wight Music Trust, Middleton Bursary Scheme at all its concerts this season.

The scheme provides financial support to young musicians facing challenging circumstances. Sponsorship from Wightlink is invaluable in helping the orchestra maintain the high quality of their concerts from year to year.
