Hundreds of people gathered on the seafront for the Venntor Boxing Day Swim 2007

Isle of Wight’s Boxing Day swims: Supporting good causes with a festive dip

There are a number of Boxing Day swims taking place around the Island.

We’ll be heading to our local one, Ventnor, which always draws a large number of spectators as well as those brave enough to run into sea – many in fancy dress.

Organised by Ventnor Carnival Committee and raising money for P.A.T.C.H. (a local cancer charity), the whistle blows at midday.

Stick around in town afterwards to have a coffee or drink in one of the many pubs, restaurants and cafes opening especially for the day.

Other swims include:

  • 11am at Gurnard with The Wave Project
  • 11.15am opposite Pebbles Cafe in Sandown for Breast Cancer Now
  • 12.30pm Small Hope Beach for Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat
