Ryde Beach Lifeguards seeks new team members for 2026 summer season following departure of long-serving staff.

RBLG, a registered charity operating as an independent lifesaving service on the Isle of Wight, has opened recruitment for the upcoming summer.

The organisation provides beach safety services in Ryde and Sandown during May, July and August on behalf of Ryde and Sandown Town Councils.

Departures create vacancies
Beach Manager, Todd Miller, says several experienced lifeguards have moved on from the service. He says,

“With a few of our long serving Beach Lifeguard’s flocking the nest, we looking for some new recruits to join our team this year.

“Working as a Beach Lifeguard is an extremely rewarding and important role, that comes with a lot of responsibility, as well as being enjoyable.”

Qualifications and training provided
Todd emphasises the benefits of the position for successful applicants.

He added,

“You also gain nationally recognised qualifications and training, as well as the experience of working alongside our amazing emergency services.”

Requirements for candidates
Applicants must meet several criteria to join the team. Candidates need to be at least 16 years old and able to swim 400 metres in under seven minutes and thirty seconds.

They must also demonstrate confidence swimming in the sea and have availability to work during May, July and August. RBLG seeks mature, professional, proactive and physically fit individuals who show a strong work ethic.

The charity will provide training and qualifications to successful candidates in April 2026.
