This from Colin. Ed
The recent closure of part of Newport High street to traffic has provided an interesting scene. Walking along there this Sunday it is beautifully quiet with the roadworks almost complete and no traffic.
I have been banging on for years about the unnecessary constant stream of traffic along there; how lovely it is to be able to walk and shop along there in the peace without the constant fumes and noise.
Perhaps the councillors would like to walk along there before the road re-opens to see the difference it makes.
Instead of the stupid unwanted council imposed tatty flags and awful painting of the backs of the seats perhaps they might find something that really makes a difference to the area and may encourage shops to fill the vacant buildings.
Discuss.
