March with Midwives peaceful protest takes place on the Isle of Wight this Sunday

This coming weekend, parents, lay-people, doulas, midwives and health care professionals will be taking part in March With Midwives peaceful protests around the UK.

Here on the Isle of Wight supporters will be gathering at Church Litten Park in Newport on Sunday (20th November) from 1.45pm.

2021 gatherings
March With Midwives is a national campaign that brought 16,000 people on to the streets to demand better pay and working conditions for midwives.

Many gathered last year in Ryde to support the campaign, including leader of the Isle of Wight council, Lora Peacey Wilcox.

One of only two Trusts in the UK to be fully staffed
Heather Wilkins, doula and hypnobirthing practitioner at The Birth Space, and organiser of the Isle of Wight event, told News OnTheWight,

“The Isle of Wight is one of only two Trusts in the UK to be fully staffed in its Maternity Services.

“This is a relatively recent achievement and a good news story for the Island.”

Since the first March With Midwives demonstration in November 2021, Siobhan Baillie MP has been consistently raising this issue in Parliament.
