New community kitchen to support vulnerable residents and volunteers in Wootton

A new initiative called Connection Kitchen is launching this July on the Isle of Wight.

The project brings together volunteers who are neurodivergent or face mental health challenges, offering them training in food safety and hygiene, as well as cookery lessons from a professional chef.

Free weekly meals for the community
These volunteers will go on to provide a free community meal once a week for six weeks.

The meals will be aimed at those most vulnerable in the local community.

Using basic ingredients often found in food banks and community pantries, the team will prepare simple, nutritious meals and offer companionship to people who may otherwise feel isolated.

At the end of each meal, guests will receive recipe ideas so they can try them at home.

Looking ahead
Organisers will also distribute resource packs to attendees.

They hope the project will grow into a long-term café based at a community centre in Wootton.
