Isle of Wight Radio is preparing to launch a new sister station this April, more than 35 years after first taking to the airwaves.
Isle of Wight Radio Retro will broadcast on the Island’s new Small Scale DAB multiplex, bringing a playlist of hits from the 1970s, 80s and 90s alongside a presentation style designed to echo the character of classic local radio.
Jingles, personalities and familiar sounds
The station will feature music, jingles and on-air presentation all crafted to evoke memories of radio from decades past.
The launch also marks Isle of Wight Radio’s entry onto the Island’s Small Scale DAB rollout, giving listeners greater digital access and more choice alongside the main station.

“A fresh yet familiar sound”
Claire John, Managing Director of Isle of Wight Radio, said the station was pleased to be part of the DAB expansion. She said,
“We’re absolutely delighted to help bring small scale DAB radio to the Isle of Wight.
“As well as offering our main station on DAB, Retro will provide something a little different – a fresh yet familiar sound for the Island. We can’t wait for listeners to tune in and enjoy the music and memories.”
Two stations now available on digital
The Island also has a vintage music station in Angel Radio, which has long served listeners with a nostalgic format from earlier decades.
Isle of Wight Radio Retro is due to go live later this month.
