Parents: Learn how to support young people with eating disorders and other mental health issues

Isle of Wight parents are invited to a helpful free talk next week being delivered by Hope Virgo, an author and multi-award winning international advocate for people with eating disorders.

Parents will learn how to support loved ones with an eating disorder as well as other mental health issues.

About Hope Virgo
Hope helps young people and employers (including schools, hospitals and businesses) to deal with the rising tide of mental health issues which affect one in four people’s lives.

Hope speaks from experience having had her own battles with anorexia where she was hospitalised in 2007.  Medina College and Carisbrooke College year 10 and 11 students will be benefiting from sessions with Hope on Monday/Tuesday (8th/9th November).

Session for parents
Hope will also be delivering a session to parents/carers at Medina College at 6pm on Monday 8th November.

We would like to invite parents/carers across the Island to attend this session, not just those with children at our Federation schools.

We just ask that anyone wishing to attend emails [email protected] to reserve their space.

What to expect
The talk will last about an hour and Hope is happy to stay for 30 minutes afterwards to answer any questions.

In the session, parents/carers will learn how to support loved ones with an eating disorder, or other mental health issues, and they will explore the intersection of eating disorder culture on society and how to prevent this from having an impact on those around you.

They will leave the session with practical tips, advice and clear guidance on how to have these difficult conversations when you are worried about a loved one.
