Revised plans for the site of Le Veness on Ventnor’s seafront, have been submitted to the Isle of Wight council’s planning department.
Permission was granted in November 2022 for the construction of a five-storey building, with five flats. However, the development has remained on hold, with the Planning and Heritage Statement explaining it’s “largely due to complex retaining wall requirements and the amount of excavation works”.
A ‘complete rethink’
As reported by OnTheWight in February 2025, the owner, Mark Lilly, explained that in light of landslips in the surrounding area, he’d had a “complete rethink”.
Discussions that took place as part of the pre application advice service, including a site meeting with the case officer, have informed the approach taken with this new application.
Mr Lilly is seeking permission for two four-bedroomed semi-detached dwellings over four floors, with off street parking.

The new scheme is described as “more modest in size, avoids large excavations and complex retaining elements and reduces the risk of undermining the land-slip at the back of the site”.
Documents also mention that “Villa Amanti, with its fine, classical detailing and soft, honey-coloured stucco walls, is the reference point for the elevational treatment of Le Veness.”
