Riders take on the twelfth round of Vectis Isle Pioneers mcc Championship

This in from Wayne on behalf of Vectis Island Pioneers mcc. Ed

The twelfth round of the Vectis Isle Pioneers mcc’s 2015/16 Championship was held at Sweetwater Brook; Calbourne, last Sunday courtesy of Mr Trevor Strickland.

The Club would like to thank Trevor for welcoming us back to this brilliant venue. We would also like to say a special thankyou to the owners of Calbourne Mill who kindly allowed us to make use of their car park – had it not been for this kind gesture the trial would have not taken place.

A seven section event
Thanks also to Howard Jacobs for another set of eight challenging sections and to Jim West for rescuing the course-setter and his stranded van on Friday. Howard made it back just in time to head off for work, for a night shift! – good effort guys.

It appears that the Sweetwater ‘mud monster’ claimed the score sheet for section eight, therefore this trial was effectively a seven section event, a very rare occurrence indeed.

In at the deep end
We would like to welcome new member Malcolm Hawkins – who literally stepped in at the deep end, competing in the Intermediate class. Malcolm did really well to finish in third place.

Mark Coombes convincingly took the win here, with Geoff Taylor settling for second spot. We look forward to seeing Malcolm at future events.

The Novice class was narrowly won by Brian Brockwell, however, Brian was pushed all the way by the ever improving James Craven. Only seven marks between them. Brilliant riding by both riders.

Keeping riders on their toes
Nick Symes ran away with another ten Championship points in the Twin shock class, with the lowest total of the day, just seven dropped marks.

Youth rider, Jos Wright (pictured) helped to keep Nick on his toes, not too far behind to finish in second place – very well done to both riders.

Phil Silvester claimed the win in the Adult Beginner class, despite riding unopposed, Phil put in a great performance on what proved to be a very tricky course.

Good play by Reggie
The youngest rider in the Club turned up to find an incredibly wet and slippery course, Reggie Price decided not to tackle the sections on his all electric Oset machine, instead using his time well, practising on firmer ground away from the actual sections.

Good decision young man, I’m certain you will do very well in the future!

Other youth riders
Owen Moore (Youth Beginner, over 80cc), Blake Lucas (Youth Easy) and Brendon Penn (Youth Hard) all took first place in their respective classes.

Meanwhile, friendly rivals, Harrison Crickmore and Alfie Haydon battled it out in the Youth E class. Harrison did just enough on this occasion to finish in first place, by a single mark. Alfie however decided to try out part of the A course, on section one, (which is the Expert course) Alfie cleaned it on each attempt.

Next trial
The next trial will take place on the twenty seventh of March.
