Commenting on ACPOs national week long focus on domestic abuse, Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Hayes said:

“It is reassuring that domestic abuse is finally getting the attention it needs to ensure it is stamped out. The Government Bill to make domestic abuse a crime and the national ‘roll-out’ of Clare’s Law both send out a clear message that this form of abuse is an unacceptable and unwelcome behaviour in our society that will be prosecuted.”

Commitment made in the Police and Crime Plan
He went on to say,

“Improving the way domestic abuse cases are handled links directly to a commitment I have made in the Police and Crime Plan to put victims and witnesses at the heart of policing and the criminal justice system.

“It is critical that those who experience domestic abuse have confidence that their experience will be taken seriously and handled sensitively, while offenders are deterred from this behaviour and seek appropriate help to stop the cycle of abuse.

Local initiative
Mr Hayes finished by saying,

“Here in Hampshire, Project Cara is great example of an innovative domestic abuse initiative that protects victims while reforming offenders and I welcome the opportunity to work with partners across our region and nationally to put an end to this crime.”
